3...2...1

I had my third to last diet coke today.  I told myself that when I run out of what I already had in the fridge no buying more.  I have been doing pretty good lately and think I am almost over the withdrawl headaches.  I have been opening one can and taking all day to drink it if I even finish it at all.  I actually am getting over the taste too and don't really like it anymore until I am a few sips in.  We went out for dinner Sunday night and I ordered water.  I even had some good coupons that would have made for a pretty good deal but I managed to stay strong and not buy any more.

Earthday + Giveaway

I know, I know, another giveaway.  I'm sure you all would much rather read about my exciting goings on of my daily life and the girls but it's rainy and dreary here so we aren't doing too much fun stuff today so I'm starting my Earthday Giveaway a day early.

Did you know that tomorrow marks the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day?
For Green Giant, it’s all about trying to live up to the name by working every day to care for the land, the people who grow our vegetables and the families who share our vegetables at their tables. Throughout its century-long history, Green Giant has worked to reduce its environmental footprint through many measures including:

     - Reducing the amount of land and water needed to grow vegetables
     - Packing vegetables in smaller, lighter cans, so it takes less fuel to deliver them to supermarket shelves
     - Utilizing traditional seed breeding methods over the last 35 years to double the amount of sweet corn  grown on an acre of land
     -Teaming up with growers to install a more efficient irrigation system that can reduce water use by more than a million gallons a year;
     - Switching to more earth-friendly paperboard to package frozen vegetables, saving approximately 54,000 trees annually in the process.

Green Giant is now celebrating the 40th anniversary of Earth Day by giving $200,000 to The Nature Conservancy to help fund an innovative project that will encourage greener farming practices to repair and protect a natural treasure — the Root River, one of Minnesota’s (home to Green Giant) best trout streams.

To learn more about Green Giant’s sustainability program or make a donation to The Nature Conservancy, visit http://www.GreenGiant.com/sustainability during the month of April.

Now for the good stuff, Green Giant will provide one winner with a “Seeds of Change” prize pack that includes one VIP coupon valid for a free package of Green Giant frozen vegetables, in addition to a mini herb garden, an eco-friendly bamboo utensil set, and a 100% recyclable grocery tote.  Just leave me a comment letting me know if you have any fun plans to celebrate Earth Day and anything new your family has started doing to celebrate Earth Day every day and reduce your carbon footprint.  Oh, and don't forget to leave an email address so I can get in touch with the winner.

*All information and prize packs are supplied by Green Giant throug MyBlogSpark
*Giveaway will close Monday April 26th at 9:00 pm

Something new

Colin has been looking into getting a new phone so we've gone to a couple different stores to try out a couple different phones.  We went to Best Buy this weekend and awhile he was looking at phones the girls and I wandered over to the ipods and I started to play around with the itouch and really liked it.  So, this morning after breakfast the we went to the "red store" (what Lily calls Target) and I bought an ipod touch and I LOVED IT!  Seriously it is so much fun and all I've really done so far is play with some free apps.  I do have an older ipod but it is 5 years old and to be honest I am not even sure where it is in the house.  I mostly used it when I was working so I could listen to music at work.  I put some songs on it that I had in my itunes library but I realized that I really need to get some new songs.  I just got a new phone in November and because I have Verizon iphone wasn't an option.  I love Verizon and have been with them since I got my first cell phone 10 years ago so I am going to stick with the ipod for now and hopefully by the time I am due for a new upgrade in a year and a half Verizon will have the iphone.

On the wagon

This is no longer part of my morning or even daily routine. I have decided that my Diet Coke habit is not good and is really something I'd like to cut out of my diet for good. Since I don't drink coffee I used to grab a can bright and early every morning, another at lunch, and probably at least one more either in the afternoon or with my dinner.

I tried just going cold turkey on Wednesday but the sudden lack of caffeine is causing withdrawl headaches (not a surprise) so I am trying to just take some Excedrin since it has caffeine in it. Unfortunately it doesn't always work and I have given in to the pain and had about 2 1/2 cans total over the last few days. I really don't think that is too bad considering I had a 3 a day habit. I've tried to quit a couple times before but it never lasted very long because of the headaches but hopefully this time I can stick with it.

Friday night is pizza night

At our house Friday night means pizza for dinner. I know it's not the healthiest meal but it's one of the few meals that all 4 of us will eat. We used to order delivery (1 medium and 1 large) and it cost $25, that's $100 a month and $1200 a year.....for pizza. Once I really thought about it I realized that is pretty ridiculous to spend that much money on pizza. It took a few tries but I found a great recipe for making pizza dough in my breadmaker and I now make our pizza from scratch. I did the math and my homemade version costs $3 (some times a little less if I can find a good sale).

The ingredients, not including the dough.

The end result...cheese pizza for me and the girls and pepperoni with no cheese for Colin. Colin has enough for two meals out of his but now that Hannah is eating too there is ususally only enough for Hannah and Lily to get a second meal out of ours. Hannah really puts a dent into the pizza too, she eat's two pieces, more than Lily eats and the same as I eat, all on her own. She is 15 months and still less than 20 lbs so we are wondering where all the food goes.

Hannah's New Do

My poor baby is getting hair but it's all in the back. She still has very little on top and in front so she looks like an old man that is going bald. She was sitting on my lap today and I was playing with her little pony tail and decided it needed a little bow.
