Sunday, Sand, and Icecream

It is hot!  I am talking really hot, so hot that I have a hard time staying outside for more than a few minutes which doesn't make for two happy toddlers who are screaming to go out and play.  It was at least 100 degrees here today but it doesn't seem to bother the kids nearly as much as it does us older folk.  Lily has been digging in the dirt by our swing set all week so today we thought it might be nice to get her an actual sand box.

We got home a little after noon and she sat in there and played until 2:45.  Did I mention it was 100 degrees out?  She didn't care.  Hannah also enjoyed playing in the sand box and she held out a whole 20 minutes before she tried her first mouthful of sand.  She didn't seem to enjoy it so I'm hoping she won't try it again.

I did manage to convince Lily to come up to the deck for a little ice cream break.  I made some chocolate ice cream on Saturday and she was happy to do a taste test for me.

Even Hannah who is normally not a big fan of sweets got in on the ice cream action.

Notice the red faces, this is just from the heat not sun burn, and they did have shirts on while playing but I took them off for the ice cream.....good thing too because they both had a river of chocolate from upper lip to belly button by the time they finished.

Arts & Crafts

Lily has pretty much stopped napping and now that we are potty training I have been letting her skip "quiet time" in her room so she is only in a diaper at night.  So, I have been trying to come up with some new things for us to do.  This week I picked up a few bags of dried beans at the grocery store and handed them over to her with some macaroni, glue, and construction paper.  She loved it!

It was just a little bottle of glue but she used the whole thing and has been asking for glue every day since.  I had to go to Target and pick up some more for her.  We have also done some finger painting and think we will combine the paint with some pasta noodles and the glue next week and see what we can come up with.

Muffin Tin Monday

I've read about this idea on a couple different blogs but kept forgetting to try it but finally remembered today. This was Lily's lunch, starting with top left going clockwise: granola bar, grapes, strawberries, yogurt covered raisins, and two sets of cheese and crackers.

Lily's not real big on sitting down and eating whole meals, she'd rather eat a small snack every hour but when I do things like this she usually eats pretty well. Today she ate everything except for a couple grapes and one strawberry so I was pretty happy. Just something new I thought we'd try to give us a little something different to do this summer.

What's wrong with this picture?

My brother got Lily the Fisher Price My First Doll House for Christmas a couple years ago and she still plays with it quite often. Tonight she asked if I would play house with her. She said that Mommy and Grandma wanted to have a tea party. Only problem is since the day we opened the doll house we have only been able to find one of the chairs that goes with the table. I suggest that Mommy could stand but Lily had another idea, she put Mommy on the potty and scooted her right up to the table. Now if only I could get Lily to sit on the potty.
